Planting a church in Santa Cruz is difficult. However, we have been blessed by having a wonderful place to meet, which is very inexpensive. Well, yesterday, that all changed. Yesterday at 5pm the Vets Hall of Santa Cruz was officially closed by the county. Evidently in the very earthquake friendly area we live in, the auditorium would pose a significant health risk during a shake up. So, we are without a meeting place. We're excited to see what God will do, but, as always, things like this are frustrating. It seems as if the wind in Santa Cruz is constantly blowing in the face of those who serve Christ.

It is in difficult times that we can be most excited, because it is in those times we are able to recognize the awesome power of our God.

mustard seed faith=moved mountains. :) Look forward to seeing how God creatively provides. He is good at blowing our minds.

Why not meet in homes? It doesn't cost a penny. Having a building is more and more difficult these days, as it tempts us to focus on peripheral things rather than Christ in the midst. And it was what the earliest followers of the way did.
Bless you!

Thanks "What's in a name?" Our choice to have a Sunday mtg place is more a question of missiology than historicity. It is our belief that when people think of "church" they picture a formal gathering on a Sunday. Instead of working against their cultural ideas we desire to use their forms, but alter there functions. We use their culture to inject correct theology: "Welcome to Antioch Church. Did you know church isn't a place, but a people? You are the church."

Too, there are many things we as modern believers do that the early church didn't: Electricity, New Testaments, carpet, etc. We understand that God created a form of church that worked within 1st century Palestine & we should look upon it as God's prime example. However, as times change, so do the "How" we do things.

Lastly, how we meet isn't really the biggest question for us. Why do we meet? Who is allowed to meet? What is the outcome of our fellowship together? Are questions we are interested in. Because changing the container will not alter the quality of the contents inside of it. So, house or building makes little difference to us. We're more interested in the who than the where.

Thanks for the comment.
